Seventeen civilian activists from the Uri Tzafon movement were detained by the military and returned to Israel after crossing the border into Lebanon on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on their Telegram, Uri Tzafon<\/a> called for Jewish settlement in southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n

The Uri Tzafon Movement has previously spoken out in support of Israeli citizens attempting to enter, and settle, in southern Syria.<\/p>\n

Previously it has called attempts to settle<\/a> Syria and Lebanon as “moral and historical steps,” aimed at protecting communities in northern Israel.<\/p>\n

Settler activists breached Syrian border<\/p>\n

Wednesday’s attempted border crossing followed a series of attempts by the “HaBashan Pioneers”<\/a> to establish Jewish settlements in Syria.<\/p>\n

Last week, the IDF detained three Israeli activists<\/a> from the movement after they breached the Syria border.<\/p>\n

An earlier report from Army Radio said that the activists were in Syrian territory for several hours before the IDF located and removed them.<\/p>\n

The activists were returned to Israeli territory and handed over to police, the IDF said, noting that the military “strongly condemns” such incidents as they disrupt operations and create a dangerous situation for all involved.<\/p>\n

The incident was the fourth recent attempt by the group to enter Syria.<\/p>\n

Police are required to pursue justice for the “criminal offense” committed by these activists, the IDF said.
