Iran\u2019s parliament is reviewing a plan to ban US and Israeli ships, as well as vessels from other \u201chostile countries,\u201d from transiting the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
The ban would go into effect until the Islamic Republic is compensated for war damage, according to Iranian state media. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, commercial ships allowed to pass through the strait would have to pay fees of up to 7 per cent of cargo value.<\/p>\n
Iran would also have the ability to fine ships 20 per cent of cargo if they violated the terms of the draft plan. <\/p>\n
The US appeared to quickly reject those terms, with a government official telling CNBC that \u201cany temporary routes will be without any impediments – meaning no approvals or permissions and no tolls or charges\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and no party controls the lanes or the ability to transit through them,\u201d the official added.<\/p>\n
Back in the US, the man who was the face of the US\u2019 Covid response is potentially facing up to a year in jail after he was accused of contempt. <\/p>\n
Anthony Fauci, who served under both presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden, refused to answer questions 111 times in a tense congressional hearing last month. <\/p>\n
A Democrat on the committee has claimed the majority Republicans were attempting to find any discrepancy in his testimony to bring legal action against him. <\/p>\n
Those Republicans have now voted to hold Dr Fauci in contempt of congress for not answering their questions. <\/p>\n
Mr Fauci\u2019s lawyer said it was a \u201ccrude political stunt\u201d.<\/p>\n
