T\u00fcrkiye<\/a> is ready to support Lebanon<\/a> in the energy sector and deepen economic ties<\/a>, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has said following talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan in Ankara.<\/p>\n Aoun briefed his cabinet on recent visits to T\u00fcrkiye and the United States, describing both as \u201chighly positive,\u201d according to a statement from the Lebanese presidency.<\/p>\n He said his meeting with Erdo\u011fan was \u201cextremely productive\u201d and that T\u00fcrkiye was prepared to assist Lebanon in energy, particularly electricity and oil. The two leaders also discussed Lebanon\u2019s possible inclusion in the planned revival of the Hejaz Railway.<\/p>\n Aoun said Erdo\u011fan had shown considerable openness to an economic partnership.<\/p>\n \u201cI saw firsthand the importance President Erdo\u011fan attaches to the stability of Lebanon and Syria, as well as to the principle that no country should interfere in another\u2019s internal affairs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Aoun added that he had asked Erdo\u011fan to use T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s international contacts to support keeping the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), in place beyond its current mandate.<\/p>\n Erdo\u011fan pledged to work on the matter, he said.<\/p>\n Turning to his visit to Washington, Aoun described his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as successful.
