The proposed duration, routes and other conditions could therefore still change.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping and energy route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Prolonged disruption to traffic through the waterway could increase shipping costs, affect energy supplies and put additional pressure on regional and global trade.

Oman has played a key role in facilitating diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran and could have an important role in any temporary shipping arrangement because of its location and its established role as a regional intermediary.

The proposal comes amid continued tensions between the United States and Iran, with negotiations also focused on Iran’s nuclear programme. Washington has maintained pressure on Tehran over its nuclear and security policies, while Iran has rejected demands it considers unacceptable.

If implemented, the temporary corridor could ease immediate pressure on commercial shipping and provide negotiators with additional time to work toward a broader settlement.

The United States and Iran are considering a temporary 60-day shipping arrangement aimed at easing disruptions around the…

[26
264,8449,1304,34,49,25932,181,39,40154,101,51,15539
post-240948","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-persian-gulf","tag-energy-security","tag-global-shipping","tag-international-trade","tag-iran","tag-middle-east","tag-nuclear-talks","tag-oman","tag-persian-gulf","tag-shipping-corridor","tag-strait-of-hormuz","tag-united-states","tag-us-iran-talks
["GET
