{"id":241812,"date":"2026-08-09T09:28:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T09:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/241812\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T09:28:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T09:28:11","slug":"young-lions-stolen-and-smuggled-into-israel-returned-to-south-african-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/241812\/","title":{"rendered":"Young lions stolen and smuggled into Israel returned to South African sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Last Sunday, the journey to their new home in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/life\/travel\/south-africa-with-a-jewish-flavour-j559kupr\" data-tracking-context=\"In article link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South Africa<\/a> began, and the young lions were given a soothing spray to keep them calm, water, and plenty of snacks to stay busy on the flight.<\/p>\n<p>They arrived in Johannesburg on Tuesday, after a long journey with\u00a0stop-offs in Cairo and Frankfurt.<\/p>\n<p>Jan, an assistant at ADI, said: \u201cIt is the most fantastic [feeling]. It is absolutely wonderful. All the months of work and preparation; permits [and] complications that [come] with moving these animals&#8230; this is the big day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are in Africa. They are going to spend the rest of their lives in the sanctuary under African skies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese lions have never run free. They have never run across grass. They have been kept in concrete compounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow they get to spend the rest of their lives in freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ori and Ben Tzur spent their first day of freedom exploring and mapping their territory, and ADI said they already have learnt where everything is and met their new neighbours \u2013\u00a0the sanctuary\u2019s other pride.
