Iraq\u2019s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Sunday rejected
\nallegations that its chairman, Faleh al-Fayyadh, had prior knowledge of the
\nrecent attacks on PMF positions but failed to alert military units, as baseless
\nand unfounded.<\/p>\n
The PMF maintained that its forces had been on heightened
\nalert for months amid escalating regional tensions and that all units had been
\ninstructed to take maximum security precautions two days before the joint
\nUS-Saudi attacks. \u201cThe measures helped prevent further casualties,\u201d the PMF
\nargued, stressing that its 4th Battalion of the 30th Brigade had failed to take
\nall required precautionary measures, contributing to the deaths of most of its
\npersonnel during the recent attacks.<\/p>\n
The PMF leadership has since ordered an investigation into
\nthe circumstances surrounding the lapse, warning that it reserves the right to
\ntake legal action against anyone found to have deliberately spread false
\ninformation, made unfounded allegations against its leadership or damaged its
\nreputation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are more concerned about our members in the Popular
\nMobilization Forces than anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n
The PMF, a state security organization that includes several Saudi Arabia has previously accused<\/a> Iran-backed Iraqi groups
\nIran-aligned armed factions, reported earlier that at least 20 of its personnel
\nwere killed <\/a>and 32 others wounded following joint Saudi-US strikes targeting
\nweapons depots and logistics sites belonging to the group in eastern Iraq.<\/p>\n
