\u201cA month ago, you said that you were, quote, \u2018bullish that there\u2019s going to be a heck of a lot of traffic moving through every single day,\u2019\u201d Tapper said. \u201cAnd that you expect that this will, quote, \u2018cruise to normalcy sometime really, really soon.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Noting \u201cthat is not the case right now,\u201d Tapper then mentioned the sweeping demands<\/a> Iran recently slung at the U.S. in order for the strait to reopen.<\/p>\n \u201cThat set of demands includes the lifting of the naval blockade and sanctions, war reparations, the release of frozen Iranian assets, [and] an end to attacks on Iran\u2019s allies,\u201d he told Hassett. \u201cSo I guess I just don\u2019t know when \u2018really, really soon\u2019 is.\u201d<\/p>\n The U.S. said last week it was nearing an Iran deal<\/a> to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as negotiations have remained gridlocked. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said<\/a> Saturday that talks with Oman were \u201capproaching the final stages,\u201d although Iran declared that it won\u2019t reopen the waterway unless the U.S. meets its demands. <\/p>\n Meanwhile, as of Sunday morning, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. was $4.01 compared to a gallon of gas previously ringing up at around $3.15 this time last year, according to data<\/a> from the American Automobile Association (AAA).<\/p>\n Hassett replied to Tapper by trying to hype up oil prices decreasing from $100 a barrel to $80 before veering off and admitting that gas \u201cprices are still higher than we would like.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve taken a lot of steps so that when the gulf situation is resolved, then we can expect prices to go way, way down,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n![\"National](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/6a78bba8150000bfe5e8bafc.jpeg\")
