Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters that negotiations with Oman about \u201cnew maritime routes\u201d on the Strait of Hormuz were in the final stages but \u201cthis, however, does not mean that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen.\u201d That step requires conditions that \u201chave been conveyed through intermediaries.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Supreme National Security Council on Saturday said the strait will not reopen until the U.S. \u201ccorrects its behavior.\u201d It demanded that the U.S. never threaten Iran again, a permanent end to the war with Iran and its armed allies, a lifting of the naval blockade of Iranian ports and a withdrawal of the US military from the area. The U.S. also must \u201ccompletely compensate\u201d Iran for war damage, lift sanctions and \u201cunconditionally\u201d release frozen assets.<\/p>\n
The United States did not comment on the demands. Mr. Trump yesterday asserted to Axios that \u201cwe are only semi-negotiating\u201d with Iran and letting economic pressures take their toll.<\/p>\n
Mr. Araghchi said an \u201cexchange of messages through intermediaries\u201d continues with the U.S., but that doesn\u2019t constitute negotiations, which he said can\u2019t resume until violations of the interim deal end and the U.S. \u201chas remedied\u201d provisions it violated.<\/p>\n
