{"id":245032,"date":"2026-08-11T15:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T15:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/245032\/"},"modified":"2026-08-11T15:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T15:35:08","slug":"syria-significant-progress-reached-on-nuclear-file-iaea-set-to-confirm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/245032\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria: &#8216;Significant progress&#8217; reached on nuclear file, IAEA set to confirm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Syria will host a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/article-905121\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IAEA<\/a>) in the coming days to announce &#8220;significant progress&#8221; on the issue of nuclear materials, Syria&#8217;s Atomic Energy Commission said early on Tuesday, without providing further details.<\/p>\n<p>Since the ouster of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/article-905172\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bashar al-Assad<\/a> in late 2024, Syria&#8217;s new authorities have committed to working with the United Nations&#8217; nuclear watchdog to address the legacy of nuclear activities during decades of Assad family rule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Syria is not known to hold operational stockpiles of nuclear material for a weapons program, but Israel bombed a suspected Syrian nuclear reactor in 2007 in the country&#8217;s eastern province of Deir al-Zor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The IAEA said last year that it had found traces of uranium in its investigation into that site. The traces were found at one of three unnamed locations &#8220;that were allegedly functionally related&#8221; to the site of interest in Deir al-Zor.<\/p>\n<p>In June, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said that as soon as conditions allow, the agency planned to conduct further work in the area to &#8220;achieve full clarity regarding past nuclear activities in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-905134\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Syria<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Citing Israeli and US officials, Axios reported on Monday that the IAEA would soon remove nuclear material stored at a clandestine site in Syria after the administration of US President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/iran-news\/article-905036\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> reached understandings with both Syria and Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Syria has not commented on the removal of nuclear materials.
