Let them do their job here in New York City. That\u2019s what they\u2019re here for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a no-fly area. It\u2019s a no-go zone,\u201d Munro added. \u201cWe are not going there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NYPD Detectives Endowment Association President Scott Munro said cops won\u2019t join the first lady on a family trip. James Messerschmidt for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>A rep for Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced earlier this week that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/10\/us-news\/nyc-first-lady-rama-duwaji-traveling-to-syria-lebanon-with-nypd-detail-sources\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Duwaji would take her NYPD security<\/a> detail with her when she travels to visit family in the Middle East next month \u2014 only to have <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/11\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-blames-nyc-staff-after-nypd-denies-rama-duwaji-a-police-escort-to-the-middle-east\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">police brass shoot down<\/a> the idea on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>A red-faced Mamdani blamed the gaffe on \u201cmiscommunication\u201d between City Hall and the NYPD. <\/p>\n<p>Duwaji is scheduled to leave on Sept. 20 for personal trips to Syria and Lebanon, where he has relatives. <\/p>\n<p>But both countries are on the US State Department\u2019s Level 4 \u201cDo Not Travel\u201d list, the nation\u2019s highest security advisory reserved for countries that carry an \u201cextreme risk\u201d of terrorism, civil unrest or crime.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Tuesday, an NYPD spokesperson said the department \u201cdoes not send officers to countries with level four travel advisories for discretionary reasons not linked to investigative work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not an investigative trip, and therefore, NYPD personnel will not be traveling there for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rama Duwaji, the wife of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is planning a trip to Syria and Lebanon in September.
