{"id":246875,"date":"2026-08-12T23:43:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T23:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/246875\/"},"modified":"2026-08-12T23:43:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T23:43:13","slug":"lebanese-firefighters-blame-idf-for-fires-caused-by-drone-strikes-bombings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/246875\/","title":{"rendered":"Lebanese firefighters blame IDF for fires caused by drone strikes, bombings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Israel is allegedly intentionally starting fires in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-905324\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lebanon<\/a>, Lebanese firefighters and environmental groups told\u00a0The Guardian on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of our missions are now related to fires,\u201d Hussein Fakih, the head of the civil defense in the Nabatiya region, told the Guardian. \u201cThere are enormous areas of woodland that have burned, I don\u2019t have the exact figures, but in the areas close to the [frontline], around 30-40% of the land has been affected by fires.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fakih also said that firefighters struggled to extinguish some fires due to being targeted by Israeli drones, blaming Israeli <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/defense-news\/article-905314\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">bombing campaigns<\/a> on starting the fires in the first place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cThey started doing this right after the ceasefire, and there have been incendiary bombs every day,\u201d Fakih said. \u201cSmall drones come out and drop incendiary materials, [white] phosphorus shells are fired at the woodlands, in addition to illumination flares that they drop during the daytime so the vegetation catches fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another civil defense chief, Samir Hardan, told the\u00a0Guardian\u00a0that Israeli drones had started two fires within the span of three days, and that any firefighting had to be done in coordination with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/article-905237\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lebanese Army<\/a>, which in turn must relay the request to a &#8220;deconfliction&#8221; group which includes the IDF.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the founder of the Lebanese conservation group Green Southerners told the\u00a0Guardian that Israel is enacting &#8220;a pattern of destruction that progressively erodes the ability of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/ecosystem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ecosystems<\/a> to function, regenerate and sustain life. When those cascading effects also undermine livelihoods and people\u2019s ability to return to and remain on their land, environmental destruction becomes inseparable from the wider transformation of the territory itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The founder, Hisham Younes, emphasized the importance of the environment in the area. &#8220;These are long-established woodlands, dominated by productive stone pine alongside oak. They perform critical functions.
