Tehran says Washington has reneged on its commitments, including lifting a blockade of Iranian ports and releasing frozen Iranian assets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One \u200bof the issues that is being discussed via mediators is the U.S. returning to the interim agreement and defining a time frame for implementing the commitments. There has \u200bbeen absolutely no progress on this issue,&#8221; the <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/iran-us-not-discussing-ceasefire-extension-senior-iranian-official-says-2026-08-12\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iranian source<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said on Wednesday that the U.S. has &#8220;total control&#8221; over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>But the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, the body Iran set up to manage the waterway, said it remains blocked and will not be reopened until Iran\u2019s conditions are accepted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Iran is all talk and no action, the Bully of the Middle East \u200bNo Longer,&#8221; Trump said on his Truth Social platform.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the conflict, Trump has alternated between threats of escalation and claims that a peace deal is imminent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;NO TALK \u200bOF EXTENSION&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28.<\/p>\n<p>Iran has struck U.S. \u200cassets and \u2060infrastructure in countries including Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>The June interim ceasefire agreement set a 60-day period, extendable by mutual consent, within which Iran and the U.S. were expected to reach a final deal limiting Tehran&#8217;s nuclear program and lifting U.S. sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian source dismissed a report on Wednesday from Turkey&#8217;s Anadolu news agency that quoted Pakistani government sources as saying they had agreed to extend that 60-day period.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no talk of an extension because, from Iran\u2019s \u200bperspective, there is no period that began \u200band therefore nothing to extend. The \u2060United States violated the interim agreement 48 hours after it was reached and withdrew from it a few days later,&#8221; the source told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>ATTACKS ON SHIPPING<\/p>\n<p>The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman and the entrance to the \u200bGulf, handled a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas flow before the war.<\/p>\n<p>Benchmark Brent crude futures have \u200bsurged since the start \u2060of the war in February, hitting a peak of $126 a barrel, roughly 75% above pre-war levels, with choppy trade reflecting concerns over disruptions to Gulf oil supplies and shifting signals on peace talks.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, in separate incidents, a <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/three-killed-attacks-ships-red-sea-gulf-sources-say-2026-08-11\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suspected Houthi attack<\/a> on a small cargo vessel killed four crew members in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and a U.S. Navy MH-60 \u2060helicopter fired \u200btwo Hellfire missiles to disable the steering gear of a Panama-flagged cargo ship, the U.S. military said.Oil \u200bprices rose but then <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/oil-rises-doubts-over-us-iran-deal-heighten-supply-concerns-2026-08-12\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">steadied in volatile trading<\/a> on Wednesday, after forecasters cut projections for 2026 oil demand.
