{"id":25052,"date":"2026-03-18T13:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T13:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/25052\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T13:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T13:35:08","slug":"germanys-foreign-minister-warns-iran-war-could-plunge-entire-world-into-major-crisis-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/25052\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany\u2019s foreign minister warns Iran war could plunge \u2018entire world into major crisis\u2019 \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wadephul suggested some of the risks of the war \u2014\u00a0including the potential for a food crisis \u2014 had not been fully considered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fertilizer supply from this region [the Middle East] alone is so essential that a prolonged disruption would threaten to trigger a food crisis across large parts of Africa,\u201d Wadephul said. \u201cAnd that must fill us with concern for the people who would suffer, and of course also for the resulting refugee flows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Germany is <a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/99aec5d0d321\/rfberlin_interim-12754313\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">expected<\/a> to be among the EU countries most impacted if the escalating war in the Middle East creates a new refugee crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Wadephul also said he wishes for a change of leadership in Iran \u201ctoward a humane, dignified regime,\u201d but expressed doubt that this goal can be achieved through military force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d I just don\u2019t believe it can be brought about militarily from the outside,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now face a major task to work together with our partners in the United States and Israel to find a point where the military objectives these two have set for themselves are achieved, and where we can then move toward de-escalation and a resolution of the hostilities, while at the same time, of course, ensuring security for the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/donald-trump-warns-nato-very-bad-future-allies-iran-strait-of-hormuz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a>\u00a0NATO allies on Sunday that the alliance faces a \u201cvery bad future\u201d if their countries refuse to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, pressing European allies to support an American effort to reopen the key maritime corridor.
