Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) \u2013 Iraq has sought an official answer from Iran in response to a drone strike on Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani\u2019s private office in Erbil.<\/p>\n
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone on Monday as part of a diplomatic outreach, according to a statement cited by the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA).<\/p>\n
Two explosive-laden drones launched from Iranian territory targeted, on Monday, Barzani\u2019s private office and the home of a top intelligence official.<\/p>\n
Hussein said that, while Iran has previously justified its operations in Iraqi Kurdistan by citing the presence of dissident opposition groups, directly targeting the head of the KRG is an unjustified and dangerous escalation that jeopardizes Iraq\u2019s security and regional stability.<\/p>\n
According to official briefings from the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Directorate, the precise attacks resulted in no casualties or injuries.<\/p>\n
Security personnel recognized the drone as an Iranian-designed \u201cHadid-110\u201d kamikaze drone carrying explosive payloads.<\/p>\n
Araghchi explained that he had no evidence that the drones were fired from Iranian territory. He further stated that there is no justification for the attack, as Tehran has close links to the KRG\u2019s main political groups.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, described the strike as a very suspicious development. He advised both countries to be watchful against suspected acts by enemies to undermine bilateral relations between Baghdad and Tehran. \u00a0 <\/p>\n
