Foreign ministers from Jordan<\/a>, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar<\/a>, and Egypt condemned Israel\u2019s E1 West Bank settlement plan in a joint statement on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe E1 settlement plan constitutes a dangerous escalation that further advances settlement expansion and annexation and undermines the geographical contiguity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly between the West Bank and East Jerusalem,\u201d said the statement.<\/p>\n

The ministers alleged that the plan threatens the \u201cviability and realization of an independent, contiguous Palestinian State\u201d and \u201cconstitutes a direct challenge to international efforts aimed at achieving peace, foremost among them [US] President Donald Trump\u2019s Comprehensive Plan.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ministers\u2019 statement comes only a day after France, Germany, Britain and Italy released a joint condemnation of the E1 plan.<\/p>\n

The countries called the project \u201cunacceptable,\u201d with the UK threatening to prepare targeted sanctions against those involved in settlement expansion.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the US State Department spoke to N12 News later on Friday, saying that the US government “does not support annexation, noting that the stance is something US President Donald Trump “has already made clear.”<\/p>\n

The government\u2019s plan\u00a0includes\u00a0populating the West Bank\u2019s E1 area<\/a>, located between Ma\u2019aleh Adumim and Jerusalem, with 3,412 new housing units expected to\u00a0expand the settlement city by around 12 square kilometers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Civil Administration’s Higher Planning Committee approved the project in 2025.<\/p>\n

E1 plan ‘tremendous,’ ‘major’ news, says Ma’ale Adumim mayor<\/p>\n

Ma\u2019aleh Adumim Mayor Guy Yifrach announced the launch of the area\u2019s first 1,400 housing units on Wednesday, praising the plan as \u201ctremendous\u201d and \u201cmajor\u201d news for the settlement and for Israel as a whole.<\/p>\n

The countries’ ministers called for \u201cimmediate action\u201d to halt the plan, \u201crescind all measures taken in connection with it, and cease all settlement activities and other measures aimed at altering the geographic and demographic character of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement also called upon the UN Security Council and other international actors to \u201cuphold their responsibilities under international law and take urgent and effective measures to halt illegal settlement expansion, and to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people, safeguard their inalienable rights, including their right to self- determination, and realize their independent State, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The countries also expressed condemnation of recent violent attacks carried out by extremist settlers in the West Bank, and alleged that such attacks occurred with Israel\u2019s support.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch acts in no way diminish the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and constitute violations of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, while posing a serious threat to regional and international peace and security,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
