Aug 22 (Reuters) – Iran has granted permission for a number of Iraqi oil tankers to \u200cpass through the Strait of Hormuz following repeated \u200crequests from Baghdad through various channels, Iran’s state news agency IRNA \u200breported on Saturday.<\/p>\n
IRNA said obtaining special permission for Iraqi tankers was one of Baghdad’s main requests during Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf’s visit to Iraq.<\/p>\n
Iraqi \u200cPresident Nizar Amedi said \u2060on Saturday that Iran had facilitated the passage of vessels carrying Iraqi oil through \u2060the Strait in recent days and Baghdad had discussed the export of Iraqi oil through Hormuz with \u200bIranian officials.<\/p>\n
The \u200bissue remained complicated, he \u200badded, speaking at the \u200cBaghdad Dialogue policy conference.<\/p>\n
Iraq has been among the countries most affected by Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic in the strait remains significantly below pre-war levels and ships continue to face attacks \u200cin the area.<\/p>\n
Iraq produced around \u200b4 million barrels of oil \u200bper day before the \u200boutbreak of the Iran war.<\/p>\n
Baghdad is \u200cworking to expand its exports \u200bthrough Turkey’s Ceyhan \u200bport and also to begin exporting oil through Syria’s Baniyas port and Jordan’s Aqaba port, Prime \u200bMinister Ali \u200cal-Zaidi said on Friday.<\/p>\n
