The NCRI has warned that they face imminent execution and has urged the United Nations and international human-rights organisations to intervene.

The executions – which the NCRI says are a deliberate attempt to both punish political opponents and terrorise the Iranian people – come as the regime confronts an extraordinary convergence of crises.

Iran has been locked in a six-month conflict with the United States since US-Israeli strikes began on February 28, while the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed. Tehran is threatening further military escalation while Washington is preparing a fresh sanctions offensive.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to announce new measures on Monday which Washington describes as potentially the toughest sanctions yet. The economic pressure is already crippling for both Iran and the greater world – the closure of Hormuz has reduced the flow of oil through the waterway from around 20 million barrels a day to about eight million.

President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for the conflict with Washington to end. For political optics he last night framed the decision as coming from a “position of strength” and said: “It is better that we bring the war to an end now as we are in a position of power and dignity, and the whole world acknowledges our victory.”

But in truth it merely reflects urgent and growing concern over the economic consequences of the conflict. Iran’s Central Bank governor has acknowledged that the country is effectively no longer exporting oil.

Iranian parliamentarians have also been confronted with a massive budget deficit of 960 trillion tomans (a toman ins the day-to-day unit of Iranian currency) – just under £4bn – while regime-linked reporting has warned of the possibility of a new social explosion amid inflation and shortages.

At the same time, Tehran is tightening its grip on information.

Iran’s parliament has approved a measure that could see Iranians imprisoned for up to two years for speaking to foreign media, including interactions taking place outside Iran. The move is another sign that the authorities fear information escaping their increasingly embattled state.

Human-rights organisation Amnesty International has separately condemned Iran’s escalating campaign of executions and death sentences against protesters.

But opposition voices warn that for Iran’s rulers violent repression may no longer be enough.

With the war threatening the economy, divisions emerging over whether to continue confrontation with Washington and anger growing at home, every execution risks turning another young prisoner into a symbol of resistance.

Hanged: Young protester Ghaem Hosseini is executed by ruthless Iranian regime (Image: NCRI) Iran’s regime has hanged a…

[3
38,71569,34,20717,1747,71570,1080
post-260349","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-iran","tag-donald-trump","tag-ghaem-hosseini","tag-iran","tag-iran-executions","tag-iran-israel-conflict","tag-national-council-of-resistance-of-iran-ncri","tag-us-iran-conflict
["GET
