{"id":261224,"date":"2026-08-23T12:38:30","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T12:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/261224\/"},"modified":"2026-08-23T12:38:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T12:38:30","slug":"iran-executes-man-accused-of-aiding-us-israel-amid-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/261224\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran Executes Man Accused of Aiding US, Israel Amid Protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Iran on Sunday executed a man accused of carrying a chainsaw during January anti-government protests who was charged with acting as an agent of Israel and the United States.\n<\/p>\n<p>The judiciary said Majid Adineh had been convicted of \u201coperational action in favour of hostile groups\u201d in nationwide rallies that broke out late last year.\n<\/p>\n<p>He is one of a string of people put to death over the protests, which were sparked by economic hardships in Iran.\n<\/p>\n<p>Adineh was accused of \u201cdeliberate arson, gathering and collusion with the intention of committing crimes against the country\u2019s internal security\u201d, the judiciary\u2019s Mizan Online website said in a report Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on numerous documents and evidence in the case and the defendant\u2019s statements, the Karaj Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death and confiscation of all his property.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>An appeal by Adineh was unsuccessful and the Supreme Court upheld the verdict, with his execution carried out Sunday morning, Mizan said.\n<\/p>\n<p>He and another suspect were arrested on January 9 in Alborz province, west of Tehran, carrying \u201ca revolver, ammunition, two tasers, two tear gas canisters, a rechargeable chainsaw, and a bottle of gasoline\u201d, Mizan added.<\/p>\n<p>The protest movement was initially sparked in late December by grievances over high living costs but rapidly evolved into widespread anti-government demonstrations that peaked on January 8 and 9.\n<\/p>\n<p>Iranian authorities reported more than 3,000 deaths from the unrest, attributing the violence to \u201cterrorist acts\u201d orchestrated by the United States and Israel.\n<\/p>\n<p>The number of executions in Iran has risen since the start of the Middle East war, which broke out on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes against Iran.\n<\/p>\n<p>A large number of the executions have been linked to the protests, with other cases related to the war.\n<\/p>\n<p>Iranian authorities executed at least 1,639 people last year, a record high since 1989, according to Iran Human Rights, an NGO based in Norway, and Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), which is headquartered in Paris.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to Amnesty International, Iran conducts the second most executions of any country, after China.\n<\/p>\n<p>AFP<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Iran on Sunday executed a man accused of carrying a chainsaw during January anti-government protests who was charged&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":251704,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[3],"tags":[17850,12937,1722,1743,34,17247,5633,49,71852,4308],"class_list":["post-261224","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-iran","tag-death-penalty","tag-executions","tag-human-rights","tag-international-relations","tag-iran","tag-iran-us-relations","tag-judiciary","tag-middle-east","tag-political-unrest","tag-protests"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@iran\/117144866259007107","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/261224","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=261224"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/261224\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/251704"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=261224"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=261224"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=261224"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
