Tribal leaders and community figures in Tikrit, Saladin province, on Sunday voiced support for the Iraqi government\u2019s anti-corruption campaign and called for disputes to be settled through state institutions rather than tribal confrontation.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the leaders backed Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi\u2019s efforts to pursue those suspected of stealing public funds and strengthen the rule of law.<\/p>\n
They urged tribes to avoid feuds and other disputes that could threaten social stability and to rely on the courts and state institutions to resolve disagreements.<\/p>\n
The statement also called on Iraqis to cooperate with security forces and put national interests first, saying efforts to combat corruption were essential to protecting public funds and citizens\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n
Saladin has been a focus of the wider anti-corruption campaign. Recent cases have included the arrests of former lawmaker<\/a> Ahmed al-Jubouri, known as Abu Mazen, and businessman<\/a> Mohammed al-Hajaf on corruption-related allegations.<\/p>\n The government\u2019s nationwide \u201cDawn Crackdown,\u201d launched on June 28, had led to at least 210 arrests of officials, lawmakers, employees and business figures.<\/p>\n
