The Iranian parliament\u2019s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee spokesperson said on Sunday that the panel had approved a provision that would allow Tehran to charge ships from countries authorized to transit the Strait of Hormuz for maritime and other services, APA<\/a> reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Article 3 forms part of the proposed Strategic Action Plan for the Security and Sustainable Development of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, which would establish a legal framework for Iran\u2019s management of security, shipping and services in the waterway.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder this article, fees will be charged for services we provide, including navigation, environmental, insurance and safety services, refueling under special circumstances and other services,\u201d Hassan Ghashghavi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese fees will be collected from ships belonging to countries authorized to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, in rials or any other currency designated by the Islamic Republic of Iran,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Ghashghavi said the article had been deferred at the committee\u2019s previous meeting before being approved on Sunday.<\/p>\n
