Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the measures following three days of unsuccessful discussions, accusing the United States of attacking Canada through President Donald Trump\u2019s 50% tariffs on Canadian products. The new Canadian tariffs, described as \u201cdollar for dollar,\u201d will target U.S. steel, electronics and other imports. Carney characterized the escalating dispute as a trade war and defended Canada\u2019s decision to respond. The breakdown in negotiations has further strained relations between the two longtime allies and major trading partners.
