The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), Iran\u2019s regulatory body for the Strait of Hormuz, has warned that vessels violating Iranian protocols for the strategic waterway could face restrictions on future passage, as well as fines, detention or confiscation. <\/p>\n
In a statement posted on its official X account on Sunday, the authority urged cargo owners shipping to and from the Persian Gulf to review the Non-Compliant Vessels (NCV) list before chartering vessels to avoid potential problems, Iran\u2019s English-language broadcaster Press TV<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n The authority said that, with immediate effect, any vessel cooperating with a listed ship, including through ship-to-ship (STS) transfers or transshipment, would also be added to the list.<\/p>\n Vessels seeking to be removed from the list must submit a formal application, along with supporting justification, to [email\u00a0protected]<\/a>, it said.<\/p>\n The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments through which about one-fifth of the world\u2019s oil supply passes.<\/p>\n Iran has warned that it will not tolerate any disruption to its sovereignty over the strategic waterway, saying traffic through the strait will not return to normal unless the United States ends what Tehran describes as a war and blockade against Iran.<\/p>\n
