Iraq’s
\nparliamentary Security and Defense Committee has asked Prime Minister Ali
\nal-Zaidi to add a provision to the federal budget for the purchase of air
\ndefense systems, a committee member said Monday.<\/p>\n

\nal-Muhammadawi told Shafaq News that the panel, during a meeting with al-Zaidi,
\nasked him to allocate funds to the Defense Ministry within the budget law to
\nbuy advanced air defense systems from South Korea, China, and Russia. \u201cThe
\ncommittee pressed for the country not to rely on a single supplier for its
\nweapons.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Security
\nand Defense Committee has earlier called<\/a> for separating the air defense and air
\nforce budget from the conventional Defense Ministry budget, arguing that a
\nsustained funding stream is needed to build an integrated deterrent.<\/p>\n
