NEW DELHI, Aug 26 (Reuters) – Five commodity vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, little \u200cchanged from a day earlier but well below the \u200c10-day average of 15, preliminary shipping data showed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Two tankers carrying \u200bliquefied petroleum gas and one tanker carrying bitumen exited the Gulf via the strait, while two empty product tankers entered the waterway from the Gulf of Oman, initial data from shiptracker Kpler \u200cshowed at 0408 GMT. \u2060On Monday, four commodity vessels transited the waterway, the data showed.<\/p>\n
The figures could change as some \u2060ships typically switch off their location transponders during the voyage.<\/p>\n
Transits through the Bab el-Mandeb, another major maritime chokepoint in the Middle \u200bEast, were \u200balso roughly little changed at \u200b31 commodity vessels versus \u200c29 the day before, Kpler data showed, but in line with the 10-day average.<\/p>\n
Iran said it had resumed discussions with Oman on managing the Strait of Hormuz amid increased economic pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
The two sides said on Tuesday \u200cthey had explored creating a temporary \u200bjoint shipping corridor and agreed to \u200bremove mines from the \u200bwaterway.<\/p>\n
“Any agreement between these two parties does not \u200cmean we will see normalisation \u200bin oil flows \u200bthrough the key chokepoint,” ING Economics said in a note.<\/p>\n
“We would likely need to see the U.S. lift its \u200bblockade on Iranian \u200cports and ease sanctions on Iran before we see \u200bany move towards normalisation.”<\/p>\n
