{"id":265987,"date":"2026-08-26T19:12:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T19:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/265987\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T19:12:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T19:12:09","slug":"three-pro-israel-democrats-join-house-foreign-affairs-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/265987\/","title":{"rendered":"Three pro-Israel Democrats join House Foreign Affairs Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-foreign-affairs-committee\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"2404\">House Foreign Affairs Committee <\/a>added several <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democrats\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"249\">Democrats<\/a> with differing views on <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"219\">Israel<\/a> to its ranks Tuesday, underscoring the growing divide within the party over U.S. policy toward the country.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) was named ranking member of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, which oversees U.S. policy toward the region, including aid to Israel. Moskowitz, a staunch supporter of Israel, defeated an anti-Zionist Democratic challenger in his primary last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a moment of enormous change across the region, I\u2019ll work to strengthen America\u2019s relationships with Israel and our Gulf allies, expand regional peace, advance American diplomacy, and ensure our foreign policy is grounded in strength, security, and reality,\u201d Moskowitz <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepMoskowitz\/status\/2092291289089753522\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepMoskowitz\/status\/2092291289089753522\">wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m ready to get to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moskowitz, who has consistently affirmed giving military aid to Israel, said he would use his new position to influence policy in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf Democrats take control of the House, I\u2019ll be in a position to help steer U.S. policy on Israel and the Middle East,\u201d Moskowitz <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/08\/25\/democrats-israel-moskowitz-house-foreign-affairs?utm_campaign=mrf-utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_source=x&amp;utm_medium=owned_social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;mrfcid=202608256a828741d061505a29956780\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/08\/25\/democrats-israel-moskowitz-house-foreign-affairs?utm_campaign=mrf-utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_source=x&amp;utm_medium=owned_social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;mrfcid=202608256a828741d061505a29956780\">told Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reps. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/debbie-wasserman-schultz\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"1713\">Debbie Wasserman Schultz<\/a> (D-FL) and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4674887\/wesley-bell-fends-off-challenge-cori-bush\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4674887\">Wesley Bell<\/a> (D-MO) were also appointed to the committee. Both are strong supporters of Israel and defeated progressive primary challengers who criticized their positions on the country. Wasserman Schultz, who won a competitive primary in Florida\u2019s newly drawn 20th Congressional District against a progressive challenger, has received $1.5 million from pro-Israel PACs throughout her career, according to the watchdog group Track AIPAC. Bell, who is supported by AIPAC, defeated Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidate Cori Bush. Bush has been a vocal critic of the Jewish state, repeatedly referring to the war in Gaza as a \u201cgenocide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committee will also include Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mark-pocan\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"5801\">Mark Pocan<\/a> (D-WI), a progressive and outspoken critic of Israel and AIPAC. Pocan recently supported efforts to reduce U.S. military assistance to Israel, including an amendment to cut $3.3 billion in funding. The amendment failed, but 103 Democrats voted for it, and 98 opposed it, highlighting the party\u2019s divisions over U.S. support for Israel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4493942\/jesse-jackson-family-endorsement-juliana-stratton-unauthorized\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4493942\">Jonathan Jackson<\/a> (D-IL) is also moving into the ranking member position on the committee\u2019s Oversight and Intelligence Subcommittee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jackson has said he would accept campaign contributions from AIPAC but has also criticized Israeli Prime Minister <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"378\">Benjamin Netanyahu <\/a>and his policies toward Palestinians. He has sponsored legislation seeking to restrict arms transfers to Israel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4694275\/dsa-embarrassing-high-college-students-sarah-bedford\/\">DSA IDEAS ARE \u2018EMBARRASSING\u2019 AND SOUND LIKE THEY COME FROM \u2018HIGH COLLEGE STUDENTS\u2019: SARAH BEDFORD<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep.
