Unlike most previous reports, however, the agency did not initially provide a more precise location, leaving it unclear whether the tanker was hit off the coast of Oman or closer to Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The crew was safe, UKMTO said. The attacker was not identified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On Monday, UKMTO also reported an attack on a tanker off the Omani coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Iran has continued to largely block traffic through the strait through threats and attacks on ships. The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for oil, gas and fertilizer exports from Gulf states, making disruptions there a concern for the global economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The strait has become a central flashpoint in the war between the United States and Iran.
