Welcomed by Paolo Fontani, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut, he highlighted the strategic role of the Office in supporting UNESCO\u2019s engagement in Lebanon and across the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During an open exchange with colleagues working across education, culture, communication and information, sciences, and administration, the Director-General underscored the importance of their work and encouraged them to continue delivering with commitment and resilience in a challenging context. He also met with the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Imran Riza, reinforcing the importance of coordinated UN action in support of Lebanon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Across his two-day mission, the Director-General reaffirmed UNESCO\u2019s commitment to Lebanon at a pivotal moment in the country\u2019s recovery. From classrooms and learning opportunities for children and young people to heritage sites and cultural institutions, UNESCO is working alongside Lebanon to support the transition from emergency response towards recovery and renewed confidence in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a founding Member State of UNESCO, Lebanon holds a special place within the Organization.
