{"id":267190,"date":"2026-08-27T17:20:31","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T17:20:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/267190\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T17:20:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T17:20:31","slug":"oil-prices-rise-as-investors-weigh-lack-of-progress-in-middle-east-negotiations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/267190\/","title":{"rendered":"Oil prices rise as investors weigh lack of progress in Middle East negotiations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oil prices fell on Thursday, extending a streak of multiple days of losses, on expectations talks between Iran and Qatar may open the key Strait of Hormuz and reduce supply disruptions from \u200bthe Middle East war.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens of the Planet | Universal Images Group | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices rose on Thursday, as traders weighed prospects for global supplies in the wake of \u200cthe ongoing Iran war as Washington confirmed it was not currently in talks with Tehran despite diplomatic efforts by other countries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent<\/a> crude futures were up $1.22, or 1.39%, at $89.06 a barrel at 10:31 a.m. ET. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate<\/a> crude futures gained 50 cents, or 0.61%, to $82.73.<\/p>\n<p>Prices fell \u200bin the last three sessions as investors weighed whether a deal could see an increase in oil \u200bflows out of the Middle East Gulf. But a lack of progress throughout the week, \u2060combined with continually restricted flows, could have prompted an adjustment of market views on Thursday, UBS analyst Giovanni \u200bStaunovo said.<\/p>\n<p>The White House said on Thursday that no negotiations are happening between the U.S. and Iran, but that all \u200boptions remain on the table.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No negotiations are happening right now, and this will continue until the president feels that maybe they come to the table in a meaningful way. We have not seen that yet,&#8221; White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in an \u200binterview with Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar&#8217;s\u00a0prime minister\u00a0visited Tehran on Thursday in a bid to relaunch diplomatic talks to end the U.S.-Israeli \u200bconflict with Iran, on the eve of the conflict&#8217;s\u00a0six-month anniversary\u00a0and as traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz route for \u200cGulf energy \u2060exports remains restricted.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the U.S. and Iran traded recriminations over Washington&#8217;s promise to increase economic pressure on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. on Monday announced the &#8220;toughest sanctions in history&#8221; on Iran, taking economic measures that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested would lessen the need for new major military operations.<\/p>\n<p>Ebrahim Azizi, the head of the Iranian parliament&#8217;s national security committee, said \u200bthe sanctions were an &#8220;inhumane and \u200bhostile act&#8221; which nonetheless \u2060had lost their effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The biggest risk right now is that optimism around a deal proves premature and negotiations stall or break down again.
