{"id":269185,"date":"2026-08-29T14:17:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T14:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/269185\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T14:17:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T14:17:12","slug":"iran-seeks-stronger-relations-with-muslim-countries-particularly-neighbors-foreign-minister-middle-east-monitor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/269185\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran seeks stronger relations with Muslim countries, particularly neighbors: Foreign minister \u2013 Middle East Monitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that Tehran seeks stronger political and economic relations with Muslim countries, particularly its neighbors, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want good relations with all Islamic countries, especially neighboring countries,\u201d Araghchi said during a meeting with guests at the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, according to his Telegram account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe seek broader economic relations with all Islamic countries, and, thank God, we have extensive relations with all of them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Turning to Egypt, he said there were no grounds for disagreement between Tehran and Cairo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe seek good relations with Egypt,\u201d he said. \u201cWhenever our friends in Egypt reach a decision and are ready to restore relations, we will also be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding Lebanon, the foreign minister said Tehran wanted good relations with all political groups and factions, and was ready to develop ties with the government.<\/p>\n<p>He said, however, that Iran disapproved of some Lebanese government policies and expressed hope that its Foreign Ministry would demonstrate \u201cgreater rationality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Araghchi also urged expanding Iran\u2019s traditionally good relations with African countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20260828-iran-says-it-agreed-with-oman-on-hormuz-passage-route-links-reopening-to-us-commitments\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran says it agreed with Oman on Hormuz passage route, links reopening to US commitments<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur approach toward the Islamic world is based on unity,\u201d he said, adding that Iran sought to broaden relations across the Muslim world while giving neighboring countries special importance.<\/p>\n<p>Turning to regional military tensions, Araghchi said Iran had targeted US positions in surrounding countries in response to American attacks, but Tehran never attacked Muslim countries or its neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>He said Tehran previously informed regional states that US bases and targets on their territory would face Iranian strikes if Washington attacked Iran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur fighters will strike any American target in the region during wartime, whether it is a US base, an American facility or a gathering point for their forces,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Araghchi described US and Israeli strikes as \u201cillegitimate aggression\u201d and Iran\u2019s response as \u201clegitimate self-defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tensions between Tehran and Washington have remained high since the war began with strikes on Iran in late February. Iran retaliated by targeting US military positions and assets in Arab countries aligned with Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Iran and the US signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding in Islamabad on June 18 following mediation by Pakistan and Qatar aimed at ending hostilities and paving the way for negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Implementation of the agreement has since faced difficulties, with Tehran accusing Washington of failing to fulfill its commitments.
