to speed up construction of strategic oil pipeline network

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi stated on Saturday that the oil export pipeline project is important to the country since it would diversify export routes and increase export capacity.

During a meeting with senior officials in the oil industry and representatives from the project’s implementation company, al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of moving quickly with the implementation of the oil pipeline network, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Al-Zaidi directed the Oil Ministry to provide the best possible conditions for the implementing companies to ensure the project’s completion according to the highest standards as it serves Iraq’s economic and developmental interests.

The prime minister reviewed the project’s technical and economic specifics, as well as its long-term developmental implications, export routes, and estimated oil quantities through the Basra-Haditha-Fishkhabur and Haditha-Baniyas pipelines.

Iraqi Oil Minister Basim Khudair met last week with officials from Qatar’s UCC Holding in Baghdad to discuss the oil pipeline projects that aim to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.

The discussions addressed establishing technical frameworks, project schedules, and contractual structures for the Basra-Haditha-Fishkhabur pipeline to Turkey and the Haditha-Baniyas pipeline to Syria.

Iraq is prioritizing this oil pipeline network to build alternate export routes to the Mediterranean to minimize its longstanding vulnerability and reliance on maritime shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatar-based UCC Holding is leading the consortium that includes Chevron, TI Capital, and TotalEnergies to carry out the project.

The project is a network of pipelines that will be extended to the Turkish port of Ceyhan and the Syrian port of Baniyas, providing two additional outlets to enhance export flexibility.

The Basra-Haditha pipeline project is an Iraqi venture estimated at $4.6 billion aiming to transport crude oil from the southern Iraqi province of Basra to Haditha in the western Iraqi province of Anbar.

Reaching Haditha opens up three distinct offshore export routes: the Turkish port of Ceyhan, the Syrian port of Baniyas, and Jordan’s port of Aqaba.

Iraq’s proposed oil pipeline network indicates an anticipatory initiative to lessen reliance on Gulf maritime routes, which are prone to interruptions.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi stated on Saturday that the oil export pipeline project
