Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday, August 31, that Tehran \u201cis not looking for war\u201d but would \u201cnever sit still in the face of any aggression\u201d, as tensions between Iran and the United States flared again after weeks of relative calm.<\/p>\n

Speaking before leaving for Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, to attend the summit of heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation countries, Pezeshkian said Iran would \u201cgive a decisive response to the aggressors\u201d if attacked.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstability and unrest in the region are not in the interest of any country and will challenge everyone,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

His comments came after US forces struck Iranian launchers on Larak Island, followed by Iranian retaliation against US targets in Jordan and the UAE. Iran identifies IRGC Navy member killed in Larak strike <\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s state media on Monday identified Ali Fayazi as an IRGC Navy member killed in the US strike on Larak Island and published his photograph, according to Iran International English.<\/p>\n

In comments to Fox News, President Donald Trump said Iran could not be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n

He said that if Iran had acquired one, Israel and much of the Middle East could have faced destruction. Trump argued that the US had intervened to prevent Tehran from using a nuclear weapon against Israel, countries in the region or potentially the United States.<\/p>\n

Trump also said Iran had targeted the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait and claimed the US had removed mines from the Strait of Hormuz with very limited assistance from other countries.<\/p>\n

He said Washington would have almost complete control over the waterway once it won the war and criticised NATO members, South Korea and other allies for not providing greater assistance.<\/p>\n

Trump shares AI-generated Kharg Island video <\/p>\n

Trump shared an AI-generated video on his Truth Social platform depicting explosions on Iran\u2019s Kharg Island, a major oil export hub.<\/p>\n

The footage showed an oil storage tank and an oil tanker exploding as viewed from an aircraft. \u201cKharg Island being blown to smithereens!!! President DJT,\u201d the accompanying post read.<\/p>\n

However, there was no immediate evidence that Kharg Island had been attacked. It was unclear whether Trump\u2019s post was referring to an actual attack or making a threat.<\/p>\n

Fars reports USD 7.5 billion in oil revenues <\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Oil Ministry, quoted by Fars News Agency, said the central bank received USD 7.5 billion in oil revenues during the first four months of the year.<\/p>\n

The ministry said the amount was equivalent to 1.5 times that collected during the same period last year. It added that the trend was expected to continue until January despite the continuation of the US embargo.<\/p>\n

Iran says supertanker hit by two sea mines <\/p>\n

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said a supertanker attempting to pass through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz caught fire and came to a complete halt after being hit by two sea mines.<\/p>\n

In a statement carried by state TV, the IRGC Navy warned that the fate of ships violating its security regulations would be no different and said compliance with its rules for passage and navigation was mandatory.<\/p>\n

Iran has largely restricted shipping through the Strait, although some vessels have transited waters closer to the Omani coast. Tehran has repeatedly warned against using what it considers unauthorised routes.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s army said it launched dozens of drones at Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE early on Monday.<\/p>\n

Emergency alerts were reported in Dubai during the escalation. Footage circulating online purported to show a missile launched from southern Iran, with claims that it was heading towards the UAE.<\/p>\n

Alerts were also reported in Qatar and Kuwait. Details about their nature and whether they were linked to incoming missiles were not immediately clear.<\/p>\n

Cruise missiles reportedly launched towards US vessels <\/p>\n

Separate reports said cruise missiles were launched from southern Iran towards US naval vessels in the Gulf of Oman.<\/p>\n

Iranian television also reported explosions in Sirik, a city in southern Iran, which it said could be connected to military activity around the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

In an earlier post in Persian, Azizi said no attack against Iran would go unanswered, warning that the country\u2019s response would be \u201cdevastating, more painful, and instructive\u201d.<\/p>\n

Oil prices rise above USD 90 <\/p>\n

Oil prices climbed by more than 2 per cent as the escalation fuelled concerns over shipping and energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

Brent crude rose USD 2.22, or 2.52 per cent, to USD 90.32 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate gained USD 2.01, or 2.41 per cent, to USD 85.41 a barrel.<\/p>\n

The increase reflected fears that a wider conflict could further disrupt tanker traffic through the vital waterway.<\/p>\n

US redirects 83 vessels <\/p>\n

US Central Command said it had redirected 83 commercial vessels since reinstating its naval blockade of Iran on July 14. It also said three vessels had been disabled and two boarded.<\/p>\n

US forces struck two IRGC launchers on Larak Island on Sunday. According to US officials, the sites were targeted to prevent the alleged deployment of naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

Iran rejected claims concerning the mining of the waterway. Iranian media reported explosions near the island, and the IRGC later said the strike caused military and civilian casualties.<\/p>\n
