{"id":271753,"date":"2026-08-31T17:07:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T17:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/271753\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T17:07:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T17:07:13","slug":"israel-signs-3-5-billion-air-defense-deal-with-greece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/271753\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel signs $3.5 billion air defense deal with Greece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">JERUSALEM\/ATHENS \u2014 Israel and Greece signed a \u20ac3 billion ($3.5 billion) defense deal on Monday under which Israel will build a multi-layered air defense system for Greece as Athens pushes ahead with a broader military modernization program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Israel\u2019s defense ministry said it was Israel\u2019s largest-ever defense export deal with Greece and one of the biggest in the country\u2019s history. The agreement confirmed an earlier Reuters report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Amir Baram, director-general of Israel\u2019s defense ministry, said the so-called Achilles Shield deal reflected \u201cIsrael\u2019s technological edge and the proven track record of our defense systems in the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Under the deal, Israel will supply Greece with the David\u2019s Sling and SPYDER systems produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and the BARAK MX system made by Israel Aerospace Industries, as well as MMR multi-mission radars for air surveillance, manufactured by IAI unit ELTA Systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">David\u2019s Sling was used by Israel to intercept Iranian missiles during the war with Iran this year.
