{"id":27425,"date":"2026-03-19T23:30:22","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T23:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/27425\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T23:30:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T23:30:22","slug":"qatarenergy-declares-force-majeure-after-iran-strikes-on-ras-laffan-facility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/27425\/","title":{"rendered":"QatarEnergy declares force majeure after Iran strikes on Ras Laffan facility"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>FOX Business&#8217; Stuart Varney examines the escalating global energy crisis fueled by Middle East conflict and evaluates the potential long-term economic and political consequences for the American consumer.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian strikes have cut about 17% of Doha\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/energy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity<\/a>, QatarEnergy\u2019s CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/iran-attack-damage-wipes-out-17-qatars-lng-capacity-three-five-years-qatarenergy-2026-03-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">told Reuters<\/a> in an interview on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Saad al-Kaabi said the disruption could result in an estimated $20 billion in lost annual revenue and threaten supplies to Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO of the state-owned energy company, who is also Qatar\u2019s minister of state for energy affairs, told Reuters that damage to two LNG trains and one of its two gas-to-liquids facilities will sideline roughly 12.8 million tons per year of output for three to five years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I never in my wildest dreams would have thought that Qatar would be \u2014 Qatar and the region \u2014 in such an attack, especially from a brotherly Muslim country in the month of Ramadan, attacking us in this way,&#8221; said al-Kaabi.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/iran-holds-world-energy-hostage-nightmare-strait-hormuz-sea-mines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">IRAN HOLDS WORLD ENERGY HOSTAGE WITH &#8216;NIGHTMARE&#8217; STRAIT OF HORMUZ SEA MINES, FORMER CENTCOM OFFICIAL WARNS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/saad-al-kaabi-qatar-energy.jpg\" alt=\"Qatar\u2019s energy minister addresses an international conference on liquefied natural gas in Doha.\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar\u2019s minister of state for energy affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, speaks during the LNG2026 conference at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha on Feb. 2, 2026. (Noushad Variyattiyakkal\/SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Getty Images \/ Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>The attacks came after Iran targeted Gulf energy infrastructure in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its South Pars gas field on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>QatarEnergy said in several posts on X that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/iranian-drone-strikes-shut-qatar-lng-production-facilities-energy-prices-surge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">missile and rocket attacks on its<\/a> facilities at Ras Laffan Industrial City caused fires and extensive damage but no casualties.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar is one of the world\u2019s largest LNG exporters, accounting for nearly 20% of global supply, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/international\/content\/analysis\/countries_long\/Qatar\/Qatar2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">U.S. Energy Information Administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/iran-warns-european-countries-legitimate-targets-join-conflict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">IRAN WARNS EUROPEAN COUNTRIES WILL BE &#8216;LEGITIMATE TARGETS&#8217; IF THEY JOIN CONFLICT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/qatar-energy-lng-facility.jpg\" alt=\"Industrial gas processing facilities and storage infrastructure at a major Qatari energy complex.\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Qatar Energy facilities in Mesaieed Industrial City, south of Doha, on March 4, 2026, after the company announced a shutdown of LNG production following reported Iranian attacks on energy installations. (Stringer\/Getty \/ Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Donald Trump<\/a> said on his Truth Social platform that Israel would halt further strikes on Iran\u2019s South Pars gas field unless Tehran escalates, warning that the United States could respond with overwhelming force if Qatar\u2019s LNG facilities are targeted again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/world\/conflicts\/iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">South Pars Gas Field<\/a> at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before,&#8221; Trump wrote. &#8220;I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because of the long term implications that it will have on the future of Iran, but if Qatar\u2019s LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Al-Kaabi told Reuters QatarEnergy declared force majeure on its entire LNG output following the attacks on Ras Laffan, allowing it to suspend deliveries due to the damage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For production to restart, first we need <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/politics\/defense\/wars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">hostilities to cease<\/a>,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/qatar-energy-ceo-saad-al-kaabi.jpg\" alt=\"Qatari energy executive attends a regional petroleum organization meeting in Kuwait City.\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, president and CEO of Qatar Petroleum and chairman of Qatar Gas, attends the 109th meeting of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries in Kuwait City on Dec. 12, 2022.
