Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say US bases targeted in Iraq’s Kurdistan region<\/p>\n
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched strikes on US bases with drones and missiles in Erbil, Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region, according to state media.<\/p>\n
State -run IRNA reported that the IRGC said they had “carried out a coordinated missile and drone attack on US bases in Erbil” and had destroyed a maintenance facility, warehouses and the “guidance system of a US surveillance aerostat.”<\/p>\n
The claims cannot be independently verified. The US military has not yet commented on the matter.<\/p>\n
Air alert sirens sound in Bahrain, Kuwait intercepts Iranian drones<\/p>\n
Sirens warning of potential aerial threats sounded in Bahrain early on Wednesday amid the latest escalation between the US and Iran.<\/p>\n
Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior said in a post on X: “A danger is present. The Ministry of Interior calls upon citizens and residents to adhere to calm, head to the nearest safe place, and follow the news through official channels, to safeguard public safety.<\/p>\n
Bahrain is home to a major US naval base where the 5th Fleet is headquartered and has previously been targeted by Tehran.<\/p>\n
Kuwait, another US ally in the Mideast region, also said it repelled attacks by “hostile” Iranian drones.<\/p>\n
US military says it completed strikes on targets in Iran<\/p>\n
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that its latest wave of strikes against Iranian military targets has been completed.<\/p>\n
“U.S. forces struck Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets including air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine laying capabilities, and communications sites,” CENTCOM said in a statement.<\/p>\n
It went on to say that the strikes came after “recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members.”<\/p>\n
CENTCOM said there were currently 50,000 US military personnel operating in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
Jordan’s military says Iranian missiles intercepted<\/p>\n
The Jordanian Armed Forces said that 10 ballistic missiles launched from Iran had been intercepted, while another three landed in remote areas.<\/p>\n
“Jordan’s air defence systems engaged 13 ballistic missiles that entered the Kingdom’s airspace, successfully intercepting and destroying 10 of them, while three missiles fell in remote areas away from populated centres,” a Jordanian military statement stated. Jordan added that no casualties had been reported.<\/p>\n
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the latest strikes on Iran had been in response to Iranian missile launches at US targets on Monday and attempts to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
G20: US threatens further sanctions on Iran<\/p>\n
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday that his department was planning to impose fresh sanctions on Iran.<\/p>\n
“We are probably going to announce a bank sanction this week, and we will announce one the week after,” Bessent said on the sidelines of the G20 meeting of finance ministers in North Carolina.<\/p>\n
“We are speaking to our allies here, who have all come forward, and we have had a great show of support.”<\/p>\n
He also said the US was considering airplane leasing companies and other companies which continue to do business with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.<\/p>\n
“We have zero tolerance,” he said. “We are going to economically asphyxiate this regime.”<\/p>\n
US launches strikes on Iran, Tehran fires back<\/p>\n
The United States has launched fresh strikes on targets in Iran as hostilities once again flare up.<\/p>\n
The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strikes, saying they were in response to “recent attempted attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed to the region.”<\/p>\n
“The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians’ failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait,” US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social platform.<\/p>\n
“If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” Trump warned.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Trump told US broadcaster Fox News that US forces had struck Iranian radars.<\/p>\n
“They tried to rebuild their radar because they can’t see anything,” Trump told Fox. “We waited until it was almost built and then we hit it.”<\/p>\n
An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman, quoted by the Fars state news agency, said the US would “regret” its latest attacks, which state television said included a strike on Jiroft airport in southeastern Iran, located around 300 kilometers (186 miles) inland from the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
