{"id":274649,"date":"2026-09-02T10:05:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T10:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/274649\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T10:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T10:05:10","slug":"india-defies-iran-war-oil-shock-to-keep-8-growth-on-track","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/274649\/","title":{"rendered":"India defies Iran war oil shock to keep 8% growth on track"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/india?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">India<\/a>\u2019s stronger-than-expected first quarter growth has bolstered analysts\u2019 confidence that it can sustain its momentum through the rest of the financial year and remain the world\u2019s fastest-growing major economy \u2013 even as it remains exposed to high oil prices caused by the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/us-israel-war-iran?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">US-Iran war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Indian economy grew 7.8 per cent in the April-June quarter, comfortably beating the Reserve Bank of India\u2019s forecast of 7 per cent growth, despite the disruption that the Middle East conflict has caused to global energy markets and financial sentiment worldwide.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWhile energy will undoubtedly be a headwind for the economy, I suspect that it will sustain the momentum \u2026 and surprise analysts on the upside,\u201d said Jamus Lim, an associate professor of economics at ESSEC Business School Asia-Pacific, who predicted annual growth \u201cclocking in closer\u201d to 8 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Global oil prices had risen far less than some analysts predicted <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/global-economy\/article\/3347193\/if-iran-war-takes-oil-above-us120-barrel-how-bad-could-shock-get?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">at the start of the war<\/a>, he said, when projections as high as US$200 per barrel were being bandied about.<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"An attendant refuels a vehicle at a Bharat Petroleum petrol station in New Delhi last month.
