WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 President Donald Trump suggested changing the name of another major body of water \u2014 this time in the Middle East \u2014 as tensions with Iran show no sign of easing.<\/p>\n

Trump wrote on Truth Social<\/a> Wednesday that the U.S. now controls the Strait of Hormuz and floated renaming it the \u201cTrump Strait.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike America, it would be \u2018hotter\u2019 than ever before!\u201d the president wrote.<\/p>\n

The war with Iran<\/a> has made the strait a key front in the conflict. Iran has targeted vessels in and near the waterway, while U.S. forces have escorted commercial ships and blocked Iranian maritime traffic.<\/p>\n

The strait connects the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and is one of the world\u2019s most important energy-shipping routes. Trump has repeatedly asserted that the U.S. controls it, a claim Iran disputes.<\/p>\n

The suggestion follows Trump\u2019s move last week to sign an executive order <\/a>directing the federal government to use \u201cLake America\u201d for Lake Ontario amid a trade dispute with Canada.<\/p>\n

Google announced Saturday that it would begin displaying \u201cLake America\u201d on Maps<\/a> for U.S. users.<\/p>\n

The Lake Ontario order applies to U.S. federal use, following Trump\u2019s earlier move to rename the Gulf of Mexico the \u201cGulf of America\u201d in government materials.
