{"id":276014,"date":"2026-09-03T03:17:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T03:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/276014\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T03:17:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T03:17:12","slug":"israel-election-campaign-stoops-to-toxic-october-7-treason-conspiracies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/276014\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel election campaign stoops to toxic October 7 treason conspiracies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">We\u2019re still almost two months away from the fateful October 27 election, but the level of personal mudslinging has already reached a dismal nadir.<\/p>\n<p>The worst are this week\u2019s claims by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/politics-and-diplomacy\/article-907277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sara Netanyahu,<\/a> Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s wife, that Yair Golan, leader of The Democrats party, had prior knowledge of Hamas\u2019s October 7, 2023, attack in which over 1,200 Israelis were slaughtered and that launched the war that continues to this day.<\/p>\n<p>Golan is a former deputy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-904710\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IDF chief of staff<\/a>, and as the events of October 7 unfolded, he donned his IDF uniform and drove to the Supernova music festival in the South to help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Golan is no saint, however. By May 2025, he had soured on the war efforts and proclaimed that Israel was killing babies in Gaza \u201cas a hobby.\u201d As a result, Defense Minister Israel Katz was permanently barred from reserve duty and called his remarks a \u201cblood libel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">His political views are one thing, but thinly veiled claims of treason are another. (credit: CHAIM GOLDBERG\/FLASH90)Claims Netanyahu intentionally not informed of October 7 attack<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cA military man of such high rank, claiming that you fought on October 7, that already early in the morning you were there, already dressed and ready at a very, very early hour when others didn\u2019t know, such as the prime minister&#8230;\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>In an Instagram post, the prime minister did not go as far as his wife, but he did say that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/article-907306\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IDF<\/a> officers deliberately did not wake him for over an hour because they knew he would prevent the massacre.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yaakov Katz, co-author of While Israel Slept and a former The Jerusalem Post chief editor &#8211; who wrote about Netanyahu\u2019s comments and the failure to prevent October 7 &#8211; the prime minister would likely not have done anything differently after receiving flawed assessments from the military and intelligence echelon that Hamas was probably not preparing for a major attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">But in election season, apparently, anything goes.<\/p>\n<p>According to N12\u2019s Dafna Liel, the media statements by both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/politics-and-diplomacy\/article-907210\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Netanyahus<\/a> weren\u2019t random but part of a deliberate Likud campaign ahead of the election to spread conspiracy theories and distance the premier from the massacre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The October 7 conspiracy theory is nothing new and is bandied about by those on the Right whenever it comes in handy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">In a Knesset session only three weeks after the October 7 attack, Likud MK Tali Gotliev referred to a social media post by Golan in September 2023 that said, \u201cOctober is approaching; the hour of decision is coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Golan\u2019s post was referring to the opening of the Knesset\u2019s winter session and the judicial reform issue, but Gotliev\u2019s comments unleashed a floodgate of unfounded claims that have gained steam over the ensuing three years.<\/p>\n<p>Threat of lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu, conspiracy theories likely to expand<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">It\u2019s time to put them to rest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Whether Golan\u2019s demand for an apology and threat of a hefty lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu will deter future outrageous statements about a conspiracy is questionable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">As Yashar party chief Gadi Eisenkot, Netanyahu\u2019s main rival, wrote on Tuesday on X\/Twitter: \u201cThe outrageous conspiracy theory of treason&#8230; is intended solely to fan hatred and perpetuate the Netanyahu government, whose only way of ruling is to divide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cNetanyahu is running from responsibility for the worst failure in Israel\u2019s history, to which he led us blindly &#8211; through negligence and by ignoring every warning sign. Some people claim that they \u2018weren\u2019t woken up,\u2019 while others got up and rushed into action -without asking questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The surest way to get to the bottom would be to hold an official state inquiry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">However, those opposed to the inquiry and those who have prevented it are the same ones perpetuating the conspiracy theories.
