Tehran targets US allies across the region as fighting intensifies following US strikes on Iran<\/p>\n
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) \u2014 Kuwait\u2019s army said Thursday that its air defenses were intercepting a missile and drone attack launched by Iran, as Tehran expanded its strikes against US allies across the Middle East.<\/p>\n
\u201cKuwaiti air defenses are currently engaging hostile missile and drone attacks following the heinous Iranian aggression,\u201d Kuwait\u2019s army said in a statement posted on X.<\/p>\n
Iran has targeted US military bases and allied positions in Kuwait, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kurdistan Region following extensive US bombardment of sites across Iran on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Iranian state television confirmed that Tehran was targeting US bases in Kuwait, describing the attacks as a response to what it called America\u2019s \u201ccrimes against the Iranian people.\u201d<\/p>\n
The latest escalation followed an attack that Iranian officials said killed four people, including a child, at a wedding in southern Iran on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Iranian Red Crescent said the US strike also wounded more than 50 people.<\/p>\n
Washington has not directly addressed the reported incident. US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Tim Hawkins said the US military \u201cnever targets civilians,\u201d contrasting its actions with those of Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).<\/p>\n
The latest round of fighting began when Washington struck Iranian targets on Sunday, marking the first known US attacks on Iran in several weeks.<\/p>\n
Beyond military action, Washington has also vowed to intensify economic pressure on Iran by targeting its trading partners with additional sanctions. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Wednesday that a US plan to expand sanctions against Iran\u2019s economic partners would deliver \u201cabsolutely maximum pressure\u201d on the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n
