{"id":280173,"date":"2026-09-06T10:55:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T10:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/280173\/"},"modified":"2026-09-06T10:55:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T10:55:08","slug":"israel-sanctions-could-threaten-british-security-shadow-foreign-secretary-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/280173\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel sanctions could threaten British security, shadow foreign secretary warns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u201cI can tell you, as security minister, a lot of incidents did not happen because of co-operation with intelligence sources in Israel, who helped us to protect British people from terror attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s first job, he added, was \u201cthe protection of the British people, and one of the things I am absolutely clear on, is that leading Britain\u2019s foreign policy is about protecting our people first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that \u201cwhere we have friends and allies who provide us with intelligence in order to keep our citizens safe, we should work with them\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>And he accused Labour of putting \u201celectoral politics above national security\u201d and risking \u201cempowering and encouraging\u201d the more extreme elements within Israeli and Palestinian society, according to the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>Communal leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/news\/politics\/jewish-leaders-raise-concerns-over-unintended-consequences-of-prospective-settlement-sanctions-unkrgyy\" data-tracking-context=\"In article link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a> in a meeting with Andy Burnham last week of the unintended consequences of imposing a trade ban on settlements.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister is understood to have rejected the notion that Labour was pursuing the policy because of internal party pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has warned it will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/news\/uk\/israel-warns-it-will-retaliate-if-britain-imposes-sanctions-over-settlements-j4xpnu5q\" data-tracking-context=\"In article link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retaliate<\/a> if the UK implements sanctions.<br \/>A Foreign Office spokesperson said: \u201cIsrael is an important strategic partner for the UK.
