{"id":280854,"date":"2026-09-06T19:54:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T19:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/280854\/"},"modified":"2026-09-06T19:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T19:54:11","slug":"single-shoe-adidas-ad-campaign-with-disabled-idf-vet-stirs-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/280854\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Single shoe&#8217; Adidas ad campaign with disabled IDF vet stirs controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Adidas is facing boycott calls over a campaign featuring former Israeli soldier and amputee Shalev Biton.<\/p>\n<p>Biton lost his left leg in May 2021 while serving in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/defense-news\/article-892187\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IDF\u2019s Nahal Brigade<\/a> during Operation Guardian of the Walls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">He recently partnered with Adidas to promote the sports brand&#8217;s in-store &#8220;single shoe&#8221; service campaign, which is designed to help make footwear more accessible to those living with a limb difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The service offers qualifying customers the option to purchase only the shoe they need at 50% of the listed price, rather than both shoes.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign posters were only used within Israel<\/p>\n<p>Ten other disabled athletes joined Biton for the series of advertisements for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/adidas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adidas<\/a> Israel. (credit: SCREENSHOT VIA INSTAGRAM)<\/p>\n<p>However, over the last few days, anti-Israel figures &#8211; especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-890069\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spanish actor Javier Bardem<\/a> &#8211; noticed Biton&#8217;s involvement and amplified it in social media the campaign, resulting in mass calls for boycott.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Many falsely claimed that Biton was a soldier during the current Gaza war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Project Unite Humanity released a cartoon saying, &#8220;Gaza has the highest number of child amputees per capita in the world. Adidas chose an IOF soldier.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Other activist accounts have posted graphics encouraging people to throw their Adidas shoes in the trash, and some activists have shared videos of them throwing away their running shoes.<\/p>\n<p>Major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-907737\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pro-Palestine<\/a> advocacy accounts such as Europe Palestine Network and The Times of Palestine then released a joint statement titled &#8216;Adidas partners with criminals, ignores victims.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;Adidas featured former Israeli soldier Shalev Biton. Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians have suffered amputations during Israel\u2019s genocide, including 10-year-old Rateb Abu Qleiq. An Israeli airstrike killed his mother and brother and cost him his right leg. With proper prosthetics unavailable, he fashioned one from a plastic sewage pipe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;Adidas made an Israeli soldier the face of inclusion while Gaza\u2019s child amputees remain largely unseen,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Responding to the campaign against him, Biton said he has &#8220;been hit by an absolutely insane wave of hatred and reports from all over the world&#8221; amounting to tens of thousands of social media posts, videos and messages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;Some of the biggest pro-Palestinian pages in the world, with millions of followers and millions of likes and shares, have been posting about me again and again, and the abuse and reports just don\u2019t stop.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">He asked his supporters to share his page, invite people to come and follow, and help him strengthen this space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;They\u2019re millions over there.
