President Trump assured Americans that oil prices <\/a>“will drop precipitously” after the U.S. wins the war with Iran.<\/p>\n “Oil prices will drop precipitously, like everything else is dropping (but more!), when we WIN the war with Iran,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He further promised gasoline would reach “Three Dollars a gallon, but ultimately, below Two Dollars a gallon.” Trump also declared that “Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon.”<\/p>\n However, current fuel costs tell a different story. Gas prices hit a record Labor Day average of $4.15 per gallon across the U.S. The previous Labor Day record stood at $3.82, set in 2012, according to AAA<\/a>. Meanwhile, diesel reached its highest price ever on Friday at an average of $5.85 per gallon.<\/p>\n Tehran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has driven these surging costs. The blockade has cut off one-fifth of the world’s oil supply from leaving the Middle East. Energy prices have skyrocketed for over six months since the conflict began. Iranian officials also announced Sunday that a new restricted zone would be declared within days.<\/p>\n Administration officials have remained cautious about predicting fuel costs. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CNN’s Dana Bash he did not “want to have an opinion” on future gas prices. Still, Wright acknowledged that prices were more likely to decline than rise. He also downplayed the chances of a nuclear deal with Iran. Wright told ABC News’s Martha Raddatz that a nuclear agreement “may await a next administration.”<\/p>\n Trump has consistently dismissed the economic impact of the conflict. He previously called high prices a “small price to pay” for ending Iran’s nuclear program.
