It\u2019s a little bit high. It\u2019s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThey can take out a city. Let \u2019em take out Los Angeles, let \u2019em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it\u2019s going to be over with very soon. It\u2019s essentially almost over with. And they might keep going a little long, you know, they always say they have a big threshold for pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The visit to Nebraska, which Trump said is part of a 32-day blitz of rallies ahead of the Nov. 3 election, saw the president campaigning alongside GOP Sen. Pete Ricketts, who is running against an independent candidate backed by national Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The statement about the Southern California cities came soon after the president told the crowd, \u201cwe\u2019re kicking Iran\u2019s ass.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne way or the other it\u2019s going to end very soon and your prices are going to come tumbling\u2026 all your prices have been tumbling down. In fact, oil is less than it was under (President Joe) Biden, so you understand, and we are saving this country from a problem, and the Middle East, and Israel and everybody. We\u2019re saving the world from what could be one of the worst tragedies ever; we\u2019re not going to let them have, they won\u2019t have \u2014 that\u2019s decided \u2014 they will not have a nuclear weapon. We have the greatest military in the world, and I built it during my first term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s remarks come as San Diego is in the spotlight just days before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2026\/10\/04\/questions-linger-as-san-diegos-battle-tested-carrier-uss-abraham-lincoln-nears-home\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expected return Thursday<\/a> of the USS Abraham Lincoln after one of the longest and most grueling deployments since World War II.<\/p>\n<p>Several state and local leaders took to social media Monday night to repost footage of the speech and share their thoughts on Trump\u2019s mention of the California cities, including Gov. Gavin Newsom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California,\u201d said a post from <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GavinNewsom\/status\/2107288831112466787\" rel=\"nofollow\">Newsom on X<\/a>. \u201cDonald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should \u2018take out\u2019 Los Angeles and San Diego,\u201d Newsom\u2019s post said. \u201cHe is deranged and dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Alex Padilla posted about the war and questioned Trump as commander in chief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least 19 service members have made the ultimate sacrifice in Trump\u2019s unauthorized war with Iran \u2014 including<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usar.army.mil\/News\/Images\/igphoto\/2003882816\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Noah Tietjens<\/a> of Nebraska,\u201d said a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenAlexPadilla\/status\/2107292586578764209\" rel=\"nofollow\">post on X<\/a> from Padilla. \u201cNow Trump is in Nebraska inviting an attack on U.S. soil, putting millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of our service members at risk while trying to get Americans to cheer for an attack on our own country.
