{"id":32299,"date":"2026-03-23T13:51:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T13:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/32299\/"},"modified":"2026-03-23T13:51:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T13:51:15","slug":"markets-confused-as-trump-talks-denied-by-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/32299\/","title":{"rendered":"markets confused as Trump talks denied by Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/f713b540f5bc64eb024c8f8312f84334.jpeg\" alt=\"It takes two to TACO: markets confused as Trump talks denied by Iran\" loading=\"eager\" height=\"539\" width=\"960\" class=\"yf-lglytj  loaded\"\/> It takes two to TACO: markets confused as Trump talks denied by Iran Proactive uses images sourced from Shutterstock      <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Financial markets swung violently on Monday after President Donald Trump claimed the US and Iran were in productive talks toward a resolution of Middle East hostilities, only for Tehran to flatly deny any contact had taken place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Trump wrote on Truth Social that &#8220;very good and productive conversations&#8221; had taken place in the past two days and so he had instructed the Department of Defense to &#8220;postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The FTSE 100 lurched from a loss of 240 points to a gain of more than 50 before flattening off, while US futures pointed to a stronger open with the S&amp;P 500 expected to rise around 1.6%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Bond markets saw some of the most dramatic moves, with the yield on the UK 10-year gilt \u2013 the interest rate the government pays to borrow \u2013 surging to almost 5.1% before Trump&#8217;s social media post saw it plunge below 4.8%, a swing of 0.3 percentage points in a matter of seconds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Iran&#8217;s Fars news agency said there had been &#8220;no direct or indirect contact&#8221; with the United States, nor through any intermediaries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Neil Wilson, market analyst at Saxo, invoked the market&#8217;s favourite acronym for Trump&#8217;s second presidency \u2013 TACO, or Trump Always Chickens Out \u2013 suggesting the president had looked at turbulent markets and moved to walk back a 48-hour ultimatum issued on Saturday without losing face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;It takes two to TACO,&#8221; Wilson said, cautioning against reading too much into the development and raising many\u00a0questions for the market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;Can we believe that\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0this easy to end the conflict?\u00a0Is Iran seeking a way out or do they want to continue\u00a0asymmetric\u00a0warfare for months?
