Kay Ivey has ordered flags across the state to be flown at half-staff to honor the U.S. service members who were killed when a refueling aircraft crashed in Iraq in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsfa.com\/2026\/03\/14\/alabama-air-force-major-killed-refueling-aircraft-crash-iraq\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wsfa.com\/2026\/03\/14\/alabama-air-force-major-killed-refueling-aircraft-crash-iraq\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maj. John \u201cAlex\u201d Klinner<\/a>, Capt. Ariana Savino, and Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt served with the 99th Air Refueling Squadron at Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base in Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The three were aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker that <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-iran-tanker-aircraft-crash-iraq-kc135-c337359a58be6280dc96fdbf1cb48a5b\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-iran-tanker-aircraft-crash-iraq-kc135-c337359a58be6280dc96fdbf1cb48a5b\">crashed in western Iraq<\/a> on March 12 while supporting operations against Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The governor has ordered flags to remain at half-staff until sunset on March 30, the day a funeral service is expected to be held for Major John A.
