While President Donald Trump signals a desire to wind down the conflict within weeks, Iran’s leadership and military remain defiant, warning of devastating consequences if escalation continues.

What Is Trump’s Endgame in the Iran Conflict?

A recent report suggests that Trump is keen to avoid a prolonged war with Iran, telling close associates he wants the conflict wrapped up in the coming weeks.

According to sources, Trump believes the war is entering its final phase and has urged advisors to adhere to a four-to-six-week timeline he has publicly outlined. This timeline may align with a planned mid-May summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Sign up for Open Magazine’s ad-free experience

Enjoy uninterrupted access to premium content and insights.

Speaking at the NRCC Annual Fundraising Dinner, Trump struck a confident tone, claiming past successes in conflict resolution.

“We settled eight wars. We are winning another one. Nobody has seen anything like what we are doing in the Middle East with Iran. They are negotiating, by the way. They want to make a deal so badly, but they are afraid to say it because they figure they will be killed by their own people. They are also afraid they will be killed by us. There has never been a head of a country who wanted that job less than being the head of Iran,” he said.

Open Magazine Latest Edition is Out Now!

Assembly Elections 2026: Race of the Warhorses

20 Mar 2026 – Vol 04 | Issue 63

The making of a summer thriller

Read Now

Is the United States Preparing for Peace or Escalation?

Despite Trump’s stated preference for peace, the situation remains volatile.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasised that the US is willing to negotiate but warned against misinterpretation of its restraint.

“President Trump’s preference is always peace. However, following his powerful threat on Saturday evening, it was made clear that Iran wanted to talk. As the President announced on Monday, the US has been engaged over the last three days in productive conversations, leading the President to temporarily instruct the Department of War to postpone planned strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure,” she said.

She added a stark warning: “Let me be clear, Iran should not miscalculate again. Their last miscalculation cost them their senior leadership, their navy, their air force, and their air defence system. President Trump does not bluff, and he is prepared to unleash hell if they refuse to accept the reality that they have been defeated.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Pentagon may deploy elements of the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, suggesting preparations for potential escalation remain underway.

Why Has Iran Rejected Ceasefire Efforts?

Iran has firmly pushed back against US proposals to end the conflict, insisting any ceasefire will occur strictly on its own terms.

“Iran said it would end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met,” officials stated, underlining Tehran’s determination to continue fighting until its demands are fulfilled.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi reinforced this stance, rejecting claims of ongoing negotiations.

“At present, our policy is to continue resistance, and no negotiations have taken place. There are no negotiations underway,” he said, while also questioning the reliability of external assurances.

“Many foreign ministers from the region have contacted Tehran, but Iran’s position has remained ‘principled and firm,” he added.

What Warning Has Iran Issued to the US and Israel?

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued one of its strongest warnings yet against a possible ground invasion.

“Don’t send your children to hell with the deceit of Netanyahu and Trump. The invading soldiers will be deeply drowned and disappear in the million-strong sea of the Iranian nation,” the statement warned.

The IRGC also directly addressed the American public: “The truth of the war you must observe at American gas stations, on the streets of Iran, and in the skies of Tel Aviv and Haifa.”

The group claimed significant military action, stating that missiles struck over 70 locations across Israel in a recent wave of attacks, including areas in Haifa, Dimona, and near Tel Aviv.

“Remember, we will level Tel Aviv and Haifa to the ground, this is what our martyred Leader taught us,” the statement added.

According to the IRGC, more than 700 missiles and 3,600 drones have been launched since the conflict began, while Iranian air defences have intercepted over 200 enemy aircraft.

Is the Conflict Nearing Its End or Expanding Further?

While Washington signals a possible diplomatic off-ramp, Tehran’s rhetoric and military posture suggest a prolonged confrontation remains likely.

The coming weeks could prove decisive, with diplomacy, deterrence, and military readiness all colliding in a high-stakes geopolitical moment.

The intensifying standoff between the United States and Iran has entered a critical phase, with mixed signals emerging…

[4
3065,177,989,4015,34,424,179,10221,2405,1403,69,3217,392,225,3859
0":"post-36653","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tehran","8":"tag-ceasefire","9":"tag-conflict","10":"tag-diplomacy","11":"tag-escalation","12":"tag-iran","13":"tag-irgc","14":"tag-military","15":"tag-negotiation","16":"tag-peace","17":"tag-pentagon","18":"tag-tehran","19":"tag-timeline","20":"tag-trump","21":"tag-us-iran","22":"tag-warning
["GET
