Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz, 22, was born in New Haven and was a soldier in the 890th battalion, Paratroopers Brigade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe IDF sends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory be a blessing,\u201d Israel Defense Forces said in the post.<\/p>\n<p>Mendy Katz of Greater New Haven, the fallen soldier\u2019s father,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mendy.katz.14\/posts\/pfbid0pMimaWKRUMQvtgobkwRynDZSuka1UGB5D6JU1f6RTUyH7P6Qo9T2ZQHYsydYrc7bl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> posted on Facebook about the loss of his son<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith unspeakable tragedy I regret to inform you that my 22-year-old son Moshe Yitzchak [Hacohen] Katz, a sergeant in the IDF, fell in battle in Lebanon. My oldest son with a zest for life and jokes. Burial is tomorrow in Israel. Maybe we only share good news. My heart is shattered and the wound is real. May he be a malitz yosher for only good things,\u201d Mendy Katz\u2019s post read.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/netanyahu\/status\/2038143380287271154\" rel=\"nofollow\">released a statement on X early Sunday morning Eastern Time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Sergeant Moshe Yitzhak HaCohen Katz, who fell in battle in Lebanon,\u201d Netanyahu said in a translation of his post. \u201cThe late Moshe immigrated to Israel from the United States, enlisted in the Paratrooper Brigade and fought bravely in defense of the homeland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of all citizens of Israel, we embrace the family of the late Moshe in their difficult time and wish a speedy and complete recovery to our soldiers who were injured in that incident,\u201d the statement concluded. \u201cMay his memory be blessed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/idf-soldier-moshe-yitzchak-katz-22-from-connecticut-killed-in-south-lebanon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Times of Israel<\/a> reported the younger Katz was a member of the Chabad community in New Haven, Connecticut.
