The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US30Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">30-year Treasury<\/a>\u00a0bond also added more than 4 basis points to yield 4.758%. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US2Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2-year Treasury<\/a>\u00a0note was over 1 basis point higher, reaching 3.562%.<\/p>\n<p>One basis point is equal to 0.01%, and yields and prices move in opposite directions.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/04\/treasury-secretary-bessent-says-us-will-make-series-of-announcements-to-support-oil-trade-in-the-gulf.html?&amp;qsearchterm=bessent\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNBC&#8217;s Squawk Box<\/a> on Wednesday that the government would be rolling out a series of measures to support oil trade in the Gulf, as the war threatened to jeopardize supplies and raise prices.<\/p>\n<p>Investors are focused on potential disruption to oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow channel that handles roughly a fifth of global crude shipments.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/03\/crude-oil-prices-today-iran-war.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the U.S. would provide risk insurance<\/a>\u00a0and escorts to tankers in the Persian Gulf to ensure traffic can move through the Strait.<\/p>\n<p>Bessent also told CNBC that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/04\/bessent-says-global-15percent-tariff-starts-this-week-move-back-to-prior-rates-within-5-months.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump&#8217;s recently announced 15% global tariff<\/a>\u00a0will likely go into effect this week, after the Supreme Court struck down the President&#8217;s levies in February. <\/p>\n<p>On the economic data front, investors awaiting weekly jobless claims on Thursday and looking ahead to February&#8217;s nonfarm payrolls report on Friday. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"U.S. Treasury yields moved higher on Thursday as investors continued to digest the U.S.-Iran war.
