The first convoy of Iraqi fuel oil arrived in Syria through
\nthe Al-Tanf crossing on Wednesday, heading toward the Baniyas oil terminal, a
\nSyrian official told Shafaq News.<\/p>\n
Safwan Sheikh Ahmed, director of corporate communications at
\nthe Syrian Petroleum Company, said the convoy includes 299 tanker trucks,
\nadding that technical teams began unloading operations to prepare the shipments
\nfor export via maritime tankers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe move is part of efforts to restore Syria\u2019s role as a
\nregional energy transit corridor and boost transit revenues, with plans to
\nexpand the route to include the transport and export of various petroleum
\nproducts through Syrian ports.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Mujahid Mardhi Al-Dulaimi, the head of
\nAl-Waleed subdistrict in Iraq, more than 150 tanker trucks are waiting to enter
\nSyrian territory, expecting daily crossings to reach around 500 tankers.<\/p>\n
Earlier, oil expert and former Oil Ministry spokesperson
\nAsim Jihad told Shafaq News that the shipments<\/a> involve fuel oil rather than
\nIraqi crude, noting that \u201cexporting through this method is a temporary
\nnecessity with limited volumes.\u201d<\/p>\n
