Theresa P. Lazaro&#8217;s phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Aragchi amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has caused a massive disruption in the world&#8217;s supply of oil.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the DFA said Lazaro &#8220;had a very productive phone conversation today with the Iranian Foreign Minister&#8230; to discuss stronger bilateral cooperation on all fronts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It added the Iranian minister &#8220;assured the Secretary that Iran will allow the safe, unhindered, and expeditious passage through the Strait of Hormuz of Philippine-flagged vessels, energy sources, and all Filipino seafarers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Secretary Lazaro noted that this positive development is vital for the Philippines, as it will not only ensure the safety of Filipino seafarers operating in the area but will also help ensure energy security for the country,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty percent of the shipments of oil and liquefied natural gas pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been affected by the conflict.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmanetwork.com\/news\/topstories\/world\/981270\/iran-non-hostile-ships-strait-of-hormuz\/story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Iran<\/a> has told International Maritime Organization member states that &#8220;non-hostile vessels&#8221; may transit the Strait of Hormuz if they coordinate with Iranian authorities, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing a letter.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s foreign ministry said Tehran had \u201ctaken necessary and proportionate measures to prevent the aggressors and their supporters from exploiting the Strait of Hormuz to advance hostile operations against Iran.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tehran said in the letter that vessels linked to the US and Israel, as well as &#8220;other participants in the aggression, do not qualify for innocent or non-hostile passage,&#8221;
