Islam Times – Iran sharply criticized recent statements by European officials regarding the Strait of Hormuz, denouncing the selective application of \u201cinternational law\u201d by Western powers in the context of the ongoing US-Israeli military aggression against Iran.In a post on its official X account, the Iranian Embassy in London questioned the credibility of Western calls for adherence to international law.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018International law\u2019\u201d? That\u2019s rich. What does it say about US & Israeli regimes’ military aggression against sovereign states and assassinating their leaders? About the Minab school attack that killed 170 students?\u201d the embassy said in response to recent remarks by the EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.<\/p>\n

\u201cOr attacks on civilian infrastructure (like) pharma factories, desalination plants?\u201d the post added.<\/p>\n

Criticizing the EU\u2019s top diplomat, the embassy said it is ridiculous that \u201cinternational law\u201d only seems to matter when it fits \u201cyour narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never hold aggressors accountable, only the victims,\u201d the Iranian embassy added.<\/p>\n

The reaction followed comments by Kaja Kallas, who recently praised British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper for organizing an international discussion involving more than 40 countries on the security of the Strait of Hormuz. Kallas described the waterway as \u201ca global public good\u201d and argued that Iran should not be allowed to impose fees for passage, citing international law.<\/p>\n

Kallas also stressed the need to expand the EU\u2019s Aspides naval mission in the Red Sea, which has already assisted around 1,700 vessels, and supported United Nations efforts to maintain humanitarian corridors for food and fertilizer shipments.<\/p>\n

The exchange comes amid heightened Western rhetoric since the outbreak of the US-Israeli campaign against Iran in late February, with Western powers urging restraint and diplomatic engagement while refraining from condemning the offensive.<\/p>\n

The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of then Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.<\/p>\n

The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.<\/p>\n
